The Music Ministry at UUCOC

Our Small Group Work

Our music program is flexible in nature. Over the years we have adapted music to the talents of those who wish to participate. One need not try out or audition to be in our UUCOC Music Ministry. If you can hold a book and have a strong desire to sing or play with us, we will find a place for you.

We are fortunate to have some very talented professional and semi-professional musicians who form a nucleus for our presentations. Special music on a Sunday may be a piano piece, a vocal solo, a string group, or a choral presentation in two, three, or four parts.

We practice together after the service on Sundays, since some participants travel quite a distance to come to church. There is usually a 30 to 45 minute warm up prior to the service. Sometimes we even prepare a piece from scratch at that time, to deliver that morning. Of course, if we cannot get it up to snuff, a piano or other instrumental meditation can always be a backup.

We believe the music must enhance and support the service, and not be a performance, a distraction. We all work toward that end. But not without lots of fun and laughter.

Our Big Group Work

Our church members are outstanding in their congregational singing. Our director has worked with many congregations and this is a group that excels. Such spirit! Such unity! Such enthusiasm! We hope, if you visit us, that you will be sure to pick up a hymnal so you can join us in the singing. Words are always on the screen, but the books help with the notes when you are not familiar with the tune. Come. Sing a song with us!
