Vespers - UU Style

Come as you are and experience Vespers with a UU twist! The Unitarian Universalist Church of Oak Cliff is engaged in a creative endeavour hosting Wednesday Vespers, each with a theme to open ourselves and our community to each other and the sacred in many ways.

Whether the service pays homage to rock n' roll, special holidays or the power of love, there is something to appeal to the sacred in everyone.

The evening begins with an Ingathering at 6:30 followed by Religious Education programming from 7:00-7:50pm; currently focused on Immigration Myths and a Faithful Response. The Vespers Service follows at 8:00-8:30 and may include readings, live music, related video clips and story-telling or sharing.

"Mardi Gras Vesper"

Inside the ancient scriptures, in Ecclesiastes Chapter 3, you'll find there's a season for everything under heaven. And next week, many will observe Ash Wednesday, which will begin the 40 days of lent. Before lent religious observers have a party. Throughout history you'll find that feasts were held before a time of fasting, and that's exactly what Mardi Gras is. It's celebrated the day before Ash Wednesday, where 40 days of reflection leading up to Easter are marked. Mobile, Alabama brought the first Mardi Gras celebration to America in 1703.

Rev. Marcia Shannon will lead.

"Reading and Discussion"

This new RE/Social Justice group will explore the book, The Soul of Money in the month of February. "The book is entitled The Soul of Money, but it is really about our own soul and how and why we often eclipse it, dismiss it, or compromise it in our relationship with money; the way we get money, give money, and or sometimes just try to avoid thinking about money...." Please contact Rev. Shannon if you need assistance with the purchase of materials, in order to participate in this group.
