Beginning Sunday, September 20th and continuing through October, Rev. Mark Walz will be sharing homilies on the pillars of Liberal Religion, using the works of theologian James Luther Adams.

You can read his essay “Guiding Principles for a Free Faith” from On Being Human Religiously: Selected Essays in Religion and Society in which he outlines and details “The Five Smooth Stones of Liberalism.”

These tenets were the foundations of the Dwight Brown Leadership Experience sessions in 2009 and can be condensed as:

Revelation is open and continuous

Relationships are consensual and never coerced

It is our responsibility to build a just and loving community

We deny the immaculate conception of virtue: Good things are
brought about by hard work done by human hands

Resources are available – both human and divine – that can help to
bring about the changes we seek. These resources are a cause for
ultimate optimism.
