An invitation to help!
Some of you sang with members of the Sandbranch Community to lobby Dallas County commissioners to bring water to this gem of a place in southern Dallas County. Well, a plan is in the works to bring them water. Now they’d like some help cleaning up the area, which has become a dumping ground for tires and trash. Let’s help beautify Sandbranch! 9am-Noon on Saturday, June 11th

If you’d like to carpool from UUCOC, please let me know – we could leave by 8:30 am and be there in plenty of time to help.

Clean Sandbranch Day – June 11
Join us for fellowship, fun, food.

Project DreamHaus, in partnership with Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Sandbranch, is organizing Clean Sandbranch Day, Saturday, June 11, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Join us for a day of community service, fun, and fellowship in Sandbranch as we give the neighborhood a clean sweep by mowing and ridding the community of debris, tagging tires for pick up, removing trees, and restoring the playground/park.

The UUCOC Social Justice Ministry has been asked to partner with the Texas Organizing Project on this issue. Please join us!

Friday, January 15th from 5:30 to 7:30, there will be a rally in front of the Frank Crowley courthouse, 133 N. Riverfront, Dallas, 75207.

The purpose of the rally is to urge the Supreme Court to hear the DACA+DAPA case that would bring some relief to an estimated 5 million immigrants.

Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA), sometimes called Deferred Action for Parental Accountability, is a planned American immigration policy which would grant deferred action status to certain undocumented immigrants who have lived in the United States since 2010 and have children who are American citizens or lawful permanent residents. Deferred action is not full legal status, but in this case would come with a three-year, renewable work permit and exemption from deportation. The program was announced in November 2014 by President Barack Obama.

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is an American immigration policy that allows certain undocumented immigrants who entered the country before their 16th birthday and before June 2007 to receive a renewable two-year work permit and exemption from deportation. DACA does confer non-immigrant legal status but does not provide a path to citizenship. It was started by the Obama administration in June 2012.
