JOB DESCRIPTION — UUCOC Chaplain

Purpose: The primary role of this position is to provide pastoral care for the congregation, including regular personal contact with members, overseeing the Membership Care Team, welcoming and supporting new members, directing paid staff performance, and enhancing member and visitor retention.

  • Serves as Chair of the Worship Ministry. Plays a significant role in the Sunday morning worship service, presenting sermons, hosting transitions or arranging for someone to do so, and coordinating programs with the Music Director.
  • Provides counseling and spiritual guidance for congregants.
  • Coordinates and manages staff.
  • Performs religious rites such as weddings and funerals.
  • May present a monthly sermon, conduct an occasional RE class, and/or suggest holiday programs or special events.
  • Visits with sick, disabled and/or bereaved members and their families.
  • Helps new members assimilate into the church structure.
  • Conducts exit interviews.
  • Attends Board meetings as an ex officio non-voting member. Reports may be requested.

Requirements:
Extensive knowledge of UU principles and philosophy. Ordination preferred.

Excellent judgment and communication skills.

Outstanding people skills including confidentiality, problem solving, flexibility, reliability and patience.

Compensation:
$20.00 per hour for 15 - 20 hours per week, some of which may be performed remotely or off campus.
